Munich Security Conference 2009

Mehr als 350 hochrangige Teilnehmer aus mehr als 50 Ländern besiegelten einen Neuanfang in den internationalen Beziehungen. Harald Dettenborn

In February 2009 more high-level guests came to the 45th Munich Security Conference than ever before. There were over 50 ministers and more than a dozen heads of state and government from all over the world, including French President Nicolas Sarkozy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Afghan President Hamid Karzai. The new US Administration was also very well represented, with Vice-President Joe Biden and National Security Advisor James Jones attending, and in Munich they for the first time presented President Obama's foreign-policy agenda to an international audience.

Dr Henry Kissinger was presented with the new Ewald von Kleist Award, designed to honour persons who are closely connected with the Conference and particularly committed to global peace and conflict management.
