Energy Security: Diversification Strategies for Europe

Last night, close to three dozen political decision-makers, senior business leaders and other experts came together in Baku for the "Energy Security Roundtable" (ESR) of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Forum to debate critical geopolitical dimensions of today’s energy landscape as well as feasible diversification strategies for Europe.

Under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, participants of the roundtable included the Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, Janusz Piechociński, the Minister of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan, Natig Aliyev, the former Prime Minister of the Czech Republic and Head of International Development at Eustream A.S, Mirek Topolánek, the Senior Vice President of TOTAL S.A., Michael Borrell, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarow, as well as the former Georgian Minister of Defence, Irakli Alasania.


The ESR Baku took place on the occasion of the "Caspian Oil and Gas Conference". The roundtable forms part of a series of events on energy security organized by the MSC and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Forum. The next Energy Security Roundtables will take place in New Delhi on October 5 and during the Munich Security Conference on February 12, 2016.
