Wolfgang Ischinger zum Tod von Zbigniew Brzeziński
"Zbig has passed away. What a sharp analytical mind! When I served as German Ambassador in Washington during difficult transatlantic years (2001-2006), there were many wise US friends whose advice I sought and often relied upon. Five stood out - two of my own generation, Strobe Talbott and Richard Holbrooke - and three of the older generation - Henry Kissinger, Brent Scowcroft, and Zbig Brzezinski. Three great wise men, all three having served as National Security Advisor. Each time I called on Zbig, Henry, or Brent, in those years, I left the conversation a little smarter, a little more clearheaded.
And Zbig, in particular, was such an enthusiastic and warm person. I went to see him each time I visited Washington, D.C., during the past decade, and I was thrilled he actually participated in our Munich Security Conference Core Group Conference in D.C. in early May, just a few weeks ago. That was the last time I saw him, on May 10. I will miss you a lot, Zbig!"
