"Towards Mutual Security - 50 Years of Munich Security Conference"
On the occasion of the 50th Munich Security Conference in 2014, the Munich Security Conference Foundation is publishing the volume "Towards Mutual Security – 50 Years of Munich Security Conference." In the book, numerous prominent participants, including former and current heads of state and government as well as foreign and defense ministers, reflect on the conference’s history and significance, some of the major issues debated, and on key security challenges facing the international community.
The book will be published on January, 22nd, 2014, by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, a German publishing house based in Göttingen. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US Vice President Joseph R. Biden open the volume with anniversary messages. Authors include former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, US Secretary of State John Kerry, US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, US Senator John McCain, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier as well as his colleagues Carl Bildt of Sweden and Radosław Sikorski of Poland, the former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, former Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen as well as his predecessors George Robertson and Javier Solana, among many others. The book is published in English and is supplemented by numerous photographs from the conference’s history.
